RIFT Character Creation Guide

Whether it’s your first time making a new Ascended hero or just want to know the basics of character creation in RIFT, this short guide will help you create the perfect avatar for defending the world of Telara.

Faction Options

In RIFT, players can join two rival factions in their quest to save Telara from the dragons that seek to destroy or rule over it.

As a member of the Guardians faction, you will follow the path of the Vigil, a pantheon of powerful gods. Guardians are devout to their cause and use their Ascended powers to protect the innocent on the gods’ behalf.

However, when you join the Defiants faction, you will turn away from the Vigil and rely instead on technology to defeat the planar invaders. Defiants seek long-forgotten magical weapons that help them defeat their enemies and maybe earn a little RIFT Plat while they’re at it.

Race Options

Once you’ve pledged allegiance to one RIFT faction, you will be asked to choose between six playable races.

The Defiants are made up of the tattooed Bahmi, the nomadic Eth and the spiritual Kelari elf races while the Guardians are composed of the skillful Dwarf, honorable Mathosian and statuesque High Elven races. Each race possesses three unique traits, which include passive elemental resistances, stat bonuses and out-of-combat abilities.

All races in RIFT(Rift Gold) are represented by male and female avatars, with females generally being leaner and slightly shorter in height.

Class Options

After picking a faction and race, you now have to specialize in one of four callings—Mage, Rogue, Cleric or Warrior. Within each calling are eight basic “souls” or classes that determine your repertoire of spells and talents.

Looks-wise, each calling will dictate the type of armor you can wear. As a Mage, you have the most restrictive dress code of only cloth armor. Rogue can wear both cloth and leather armor. Clerics can wear cloth, leather and chain armor. While Warriors can wear basically anything, even the highest defense plate armor.

You can spend RIFT Plat later in the game for rare armor and costumes that will set your toon apart even more. Special dyes may also be purchased in exchange for RIFT(Cheap Rift Gold) Plat to change the color of your existing armor.
