Multiplayer beat 'em up Dungeon Fighter is all set to be Xbox Live Arcade's first ever free-to-play title, publisher Nexon has announced.
According to Siliconera, the game will be free to download but you'll then have to pay for any additional content above and beyond the basic set-up.
Microsoft Game Studios is chipping in, localising the game for France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Japan, while Nexon takes care of the English, Chinese and Korean versions(dfo gold).
The game first came out on PC back in 2005 and has been a huge hit in China and South Korea. An English language version launched last year but this will be the first time it's landed on a console.
No release date has been firmed up just yet, but it will be an Xbox 360 exclusive.You can buy dfo gold.
We have been talking a lot about the arcade fighting style of the game but the data we received from the closed beta served as a proof point that Dungeon Fighter Online is played like (
dungeon figher gold) an MMORPG. We saw user play patterns that would correlate to MapleStory, including a lengthy average play time. It's a good thing that DFO will be free-to-play, otherwise we're talking about a lot of quarters if this was solely on an arcade machine!
This game appears to attract the core Nexon player and one who is slightly older. Typically, the average Nexon user is 13-17 but we also had an equally large number of the players in the closed beta who are 18-20 and older. We expected this game to resonate with old arcade players but it also has legs with the college crowd as well(dungeon figher online gold).
